Do You Watch the Oxygen Network?

What is Oprah’s Oxygen Network Proclaiming About Sandy’s Newest Weight Loss Program?

After finding out about Thin & Healthy’s Total Solution®, the Executive Producer for Fitness Insider, a television show aired on the Oxygen Channel, says, “Thin & Healthy’s Total Solution® is the BEST kept secret in weight loss.”

No other weight management or fitness program offers the three components Thin & Healthy’s Total Solution® offers. Healthy Foods Education® teaches people how to eat their favorite foods and lose weight. That is unique and great news, since we love our pizza, chips and brownies. But it’s not what makes Thin & Healthy’s Total Solution® stand out.

Metabolism Retraining® teaches people how to fall in love with movement. Even those who’ve never liked exercise discover how easy it is to increase their metabolic rate with movement. That is unique, but also not what makes Thin & Healthy’s Total Solution® stand out.

What makes this program stand out is Life Success® which gives each member the inspiration, education and tools needed in order to tap into the motivation and determination that lie within them, thus helping them achieve their goals.

Donna Krech, CEO and founder of Thin & Healthy’s Total Solution® says, “Permanent weight loss is not about the food! It’s about the motivation. We focus on teaching our members how to maintain their motivation. Anyone can lose weight, but 97% of Americans who lose weight gain it right back, which is where we come in and change the standards.”

Thin & Healthy’s Total Solution® new location in Sandy is part of a network of over 200 locations distributing the program worldwide. It is the only complete concept, as it is the marriage of weight loss, fitness and motivation. The members enjoy the opportunity to work on losing weight, increasing their movement and improving their entire life, all at one place.

Kris Holt, a member at the location in Lima, Ohio, says, “I love how Thin & Healthy’s Total Solution® is always doing something new to make my results better and faster! Plus, I love that I don’t need to worry about going to different places to lose weight, change my life and get my activity in. This program really focuses on my life and that makes losing weight much easier.”

How To Reduce The Fat In A Burger By 50%

What do we mean by lean beef?

There has been some confusion over how to determine what lean beef actually is. Should you go by the actual cut of meat or the % lean designation, or do you need to buy organic or natural beef. Follow the tips below to help you choose the leanest beef and other ideas to help you cut back on the amount of fat.
  • According to criteria set by the USDA for meat labels, lean beef contains no more than 10% fat - 90% lean.
  • You can also find "extra lean" which contains no more than 5% fat - 95% lean.
  • The most reliable information is the "% fat" and "% lean" numbers.
  • The amount of fat on the meat label is the amount in the raw meat - Cooking the beef in a pan or on a grill will decrease the fat anywhere from 1-5 grams of fat depending on the % fat content. In the 95% lean beef, it goes from 6 grams of fat for raw down to 5 g of fat for cooked. In the 90% lean, it goes from 11 grams down to 9 grams.
  • Don't forget about the blot method. By placing hamburger on a few layers of paper towel after it's been cooked, can reduce fat up to 50% when using fattier meats.
  • Although organic and natural beef may have some benefits, when it comes to fat content those types still abide by the same regulations as the more common beef products, so no less fat in organic beef.

10 Tiny Changes for Big Weight Loss

Chalene Johnson, creator of Turbo Jam®, suggest 10 tiny changes that can have a big impact on weight loss. You can find her article on the Beach Body website. As some of you may have noticed, we have started offering Turbo Kick and Hip Hop Hustle classes since Jennifer certified last month.
Chalene suggests we "Never let a vacation or a special holiday be an excuse to overdo it the entire time. Go ahead, enjoy the occasional indulgence, but keep it reasonable. Here are 10 tiny changes you can make for big weight loss.
1. Wait 2 minutes.
2. W.I.W.M. "What do I Want More"
3. No one's perfect.
4. Focus. Make eating purposeful.
5. Don't skip breakfast.
6. Veggies. Most of your plate should have veggies and/or fruit on it at both lunch and dinner.
7. See what you eat. Eat your food off of a plate instead of straight out of a jar, bag, or box.
8. Don't buy it. Just eliminate the temptation.
9. Eat more fruit.
10. Watch what you drink. Cut back on or cut out high-calorie drinks like soda, sweet tea, lemonade, and especially alcohol.
I would definitely recommend reading the complete article for complete details.

10 Ways To Think Yourself Thinner

Beachbody.com has a great article that relates to a concept Donna Kretch has been writing and speaking about for a while. Just as losing weight and getting healthier won't happen overnight, improving your thought process will take time as well. Thinking Thin is as important as any part of losing weight - and is often overlooked. This "Mental Fat" must be worked out as much as the physical fat.
1. Visualize yourself thin
2. Make a list
3. Identify self-sabotaging thoughts
4. Distract yourself from cravings
5. Create small goals
6. Replace old habits with new ones
7. Keep a journal
8. Plan for the future
9. Be nice to yourself
10. Surround yourself with support
I recommend reading both articles, beachbody and Thinking is Thin-King as both provide support and insights for power in losing weight.

Biggest Winner Kick-Off

We're having our Biggest Winner Kick-off tonight at 6:00! I really hope we have good support from our members. This is a really great opportunity for everyone to meet and have a great time. These little competitions are a great way to build friendships and get great results - especially for those who are going through the program without a family or friend support.
Also, our French picnic at LaCaille will be given away this Friday. Currently Alie D. is our leader with 11 points for having her mother and aunt join the program! They are all doing so great - and are so much fun to have come around.

Midvale Harvest Days

We're just trying to get put back together after attending the Midvale Harvest Days and Draper City Health and Safety Fair. We made a lot of great contacts AND had a great time. Thanks to Tammy Quintana of Erickson Enterprises Great Clips for providing the FREE kids face painting at the event, and Cindy Judd - a Nikken wellness consultant and advocate for better liver health - for helping us out at the event.
This is a picture of Cindy and myself just after setting up. It got a lot warmer and I got a little sun as the day wore on.We had a pretty good set up near the Corron political party and Liberty Tax. I made some great contacts with Back to Health Chiropractic, SL County Youth Services, FUSE, and The Water Store.

We had a successful day checking people's body fat percentage, talking about diabetes prevention, and weight loss.

One thing they did that I thought was a lot of fun was a "Junior Olympics" for the kids. They had races and competitions for the children to do.

Weight Loss Hint

Stretch your meals to at least 20 minutes or longer. Your stomach, mouth and brain are all connected and it takes 20 minutes of chewing before your stomach signals your brain that you are full. To feel full and successfully lose weight on any program, you need to eat slowly for 20 minutes or longer.

Nutrition Hint: Oh, Nuts
They are good for you! After years of being labeled "bad" foods, nuts are garnering national attention as a tool in maintaining overall health. Nuts are being credited with helping to lower the risk of heart attacks, maintaining young, elastic skin and reducing the risk of Alzheimer's.

Tree nuts, such as almonds, hazelnuts, macadamias, pecans and walnuts, have no cholesterol and are high in unsaturated ("good") fats; they help reduce LDL and total cholesterol levels. One healthy fat, linolenic acid, is an example of an unsaturated fat that helps maintain good heart health.

Nuts are high in calories but are also cholesterol-free and they provide good sources of protein, phosphorus, zinc, magnesium, vitamin E and selenium. In small portions, nuts can be a healthful food choice.

Try these tips for incorporating nuts into your diet:

  • Instead of simply adding nuts to your diet, eat them in place of other snacks; that way you won't add extra calories.
  • Weigh the nuts before you eat them. Find a convenient sized container to store a single serving in (like a small mint tin). To measure out an ounce of nuts use a regular ½ ounce shot glass-2 shot glasses = 1 ounce.
  • Choose raw nuts. If you opt for dry-roasted or oil- roasted nuts, be aware that the calorie and fat content will usually be higher. If nuts are roasted with hydrogenated oil the quality of the fat will be compromised. Also remember that added salt may not be good for those with high blood pressure.
  • Avoid sugar-coated, chocolate-dipped and other candied nuts, as these add unnecessary fat calories.
  • Buy nuts in the shell; having to crack them open will slow your eating down!
  • Coconut and palm nuts are exceptions to the healthy nut rule as they contain high levels of saturated fats.
